Fishing at Wadleigh Mountain Camps
Northern Maine is home to some of the best cold-water fishing in the eastern United States. Up here in Aroostook County's North Zone, you're fishing waters that most people will never see — remote brook trout streams, backcountry ponds, and clean, deep lakes that hold landlocked salmon and togue (lake trout). Wadleigh Mountain Camps sits right in the middle of this country with access to dozens of ponds, streams, and rivers that hold wild brook trout.
North Zone Fishing Seasons
Open Water Season
Dates: April 1 – September 30
Areas / WMDs: North Zone
Limits: Standard bag limits apply
Full six-month season for all species
Artificial Only Period
Dates: August 16 – September 30
Areas / WMDs: North Zone
Limits: 1 salmon + 1 trout daily
Artificial lures and flies only
Rivers & Streams Closed
Dates: October 1 – March 31
Areas / WMDs: All rivers and streams
Limits: No fishing
Ice fishing rules vary by specific water body
No live bait allowed in the North Zone. Artificial lures, flies, and dead bait only.
Species & Regulations
Brook Trout
5 per day, 6" minimum length. Wild brook trout thrive in the cold, clean streams and remote ponds of Aroostook County. Native fish in native habitat.
Landlocked Salmon
2 per day, 14" minimum length. Found in deeper lakes and connected river systems. Best fishing is in spring right after ice-out.
Togue (Lake Trout)
2 per day, 18" minimum length. The big fish of northern Maine's deep, cold lakes. Targeted by trolling deep or jigging through the ice.
Smallmouth Bass
No daily limit in the North Zone. Well-established in many northern Maine waters. Catch and release all day or keep a mess for supper.
No Live Bait
North Zone regulation: no live bait allowed. Artificial lures, flies, and dead bait only. It's one of the reasons the fishing stays so good up here.
